11.30.08 - TRIPLE THREAT AT NRHA FUTURITY TODAY

Oklahoma City, OK – November 30, 2008 – The competition at the 2008 NRHA Futurity & Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship (NAAC) Show went into full force on Sunday with a triple threat of Reining competition. The first go-round of the Open Futurity came to a close while the go-round of the Cinch® NRHA Non Pro Futurity and first classes of the NAAC Show went underway.

 

Now, in the $100,000 added NRHA Open Futurity, 80% of the highest-scoring riders in the first go will advance to the second go-round which begins Monday morning. All riders have set their sights on the same thing; the Open Futurity Finals for a chance to win the check for $125,000 awarded to the Open Futurity Champion.

 

Wagonhound Land & Livestock’s Shiner Olena (Smart Chic Olena x Miss Shiner Dear) Andrea Fappani of San Marcos, California hung onto the lead in the Open Futurity with a 222.5. Chics Blazin Spark & Craig Schmersal and Shiny Hot Pants & Todd Crawford remained in a tie for second with a score of 221.5.

 

Rosanne Sternberg’s Shiners Chic (Smart Chic Olena x Ebony Shines) and Brad Giesbrecht stayed atop of the leader board with a 220 in the Intermediate Open Division. Good Time Whiz Girl (Topsail Whiz x Good Time Show Girl) and Pilot Point, Texas‘ Jared Leclair marked a 219.5 to squeeze into second place for owner Carl Lambert.

 

Lance Griffin’s The Great Tag (Whiz N Tag Chex x Pines BH) and Cody Sapergia marked a 220 to tie Shiners Chic and Giesbrecht for the lead in the Open Gelding Incentive Division. The Great Tag is owned by NRHA’s first Million Dollar Owner Lance Griffin. Rider Cody Sapergia is from Ardmore, Oklahoma.

 

Charles Stinner’s A Cowgirls Money (Major Vaquero x Jesses Money) and Sebastian Petroll kept their one-point lead in the Limited Open Division with a 213. Miss Smokin Rose (Topsail Whiz x Glendas A Smokingun) and Randall Dooley are right behind with a 212 for owner K.C. Belcher.

 

In the Prime Time Open division, Tim McQuay and his three mounts finished ahead of the competition. McQuay rode Jerry Kimmel’s Check Your Gun Lady (Dun Gotta Gun x Cee Blair Lady) and A Ruf Master (Lil Ruf Peppy x Shiners Mistress) to tie for first with a 220. Carol Rose’s Shining And Sassy (Shining Spark x Sassy O Lena) and McQuay were right behind with the 219.5 for third in the go.

The Go-Round’s First Section of the Cinch®/NRHA Non Pro Futurity hit the Coliseum arena this afternoon. Samantha Griffin, of DeWinton, Alberta, and Ardmore, Oklahoma is in the lead aboard This Chic N Whiz (Smart Chic Olena x This Chex On Top) with a 217.5 for NRHA Million Dollar Owner Lance Griffin.

 

Janice Free and her Dont Joke With Chic (Chic Olena 0067 x One Ruf Joker) marked the high score of the day in both the Intermediate Non Pro and Prime Time Non Pro divisions. Free is from Bondurant, Wyoming. Dunit Pistol Pete (Tejons Peppy Doc x Goody Goody Dun Drop) with Hempstead, Texas‘ Victoria Lambert aboard came in second with a 211. Carl Lambert is the owner. Right behind Free in the Prime Time Non Pro was Lance Griffin and Guns Smokin Chex (Nu Chex To Cash x CR Guns Fancy). Griffin, of DeWinton, Alberta, also owns the gelding.

 

There was a tie at the end of the day in the Limited Non Pro division. Sudden Whiz (Topsail Whiz x Suddenly Shiney) and owner Cassie Brown, of Taylorsville, Kentucky, finished neck and neck with Carson Underwood and her Mark It Big (Mark This Spot x Robyn Redford). Underwood hails from Corinth, Texas.

 

Yes Ima Gunner (Gunner x Double Sweet BH) and Tricia Hamilton, of Scottsdale, Arizona, took the top score in the Non Pro Gelding Incentive standings with a score of 214. Bob Hamilton is the owner. Yes Ima Gunner and Hamilton finished second in the Cinch® Non Pro Futurity standings as well. There was a three-way tie for second with Dont Miss This Gun and Mandy McCutcheon, Samantha Griffin and Grandpa Tag and Janice Free and Dont Joke With Chic.

 

The first classes of the Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship Show kicked off with some of the most avid reiners from the U.S., Canada and Mexico battling head-to-head. The NAAC is the culmination of a year of grueling competition for these riders who trekked many miles down the road to qualify for the Championships. The top four riders, plus ties, in each division at the Regional Affiliate Finals were invited to compete in the NAAC to see who the best reiners on the continent are. 

 

The first two classes of the NAAC, the $500 added Rookie Professional and $500 added Limited Open, were held today. Anne Kent’s Breezin Wright On (Lenas Wright On x Aloe Marci) and Wesley Meissner tied with Kristy Wheeler’s Pay Chex Gold (Chex That Out x SR Milligans Quixote) and Jared Winter in the NAAC Rookie Professional. Both Breezin Wright On and Meissner and Pay Chex Gold and Winter qualified for the NAAC at the NRHA Mountain Regional Affiliate Finals in Denver, Colorado. Wesley is from Circle, Montana and Winter is from Livingston, Montana.

 

In the NAAC Limited Open, Smart Zan Bonita (Smart Shiner x Miss Parson) and Seth Chamberlain won the class. Oxford, Nebraska’s Robert & Robbin Thayn’s class winner qualified through the NRHA Regional Affiliate Finals for the Mountain Region in Denver, Colorado. Chamberlain hails from Stamford, Nebraska.  In second place was Jared Winter riding Pay Chex Gold (Chex That Out x SR Milligan Quixote) owned by Kristy Wheeler, Cody, Wyoming.

 

In the ancillary Rookie Professional Barbara Bouchard was at the reins of Dream Olena Chic (Magnum Chic Dream x Bob Acre Badgerlena) for Euro-Vets, Inc. for the championship and there was a three-way tie between Schols & Loseke’s Hot Little Step (Wimpys Little Step x Hot Little Lady) and Roy Van Der Hoeven; Breezin Wright On (Lenas Wright On x Aloe Marci) ridden by Cameron Meissner for Anne Kent; and Winter riding Pay Chex Gold.

 

In the ancillary Limited Open class Roberto Jou rode Pirai 1448 Do 1200 Nobre to the head of the class followed by a three-way tie for reserve between J.P. Forget riding Hollywood Tradition (Squaws Bobby Jac x Poco Misty Midnight) for Sally Thomason; The Ultimate Magnum (Magnum Chic Dream x Queen De La Club) with Roger Barral riding and owned by Jean Piper; Barbara Bouchard was at the reins of Dream Olena Chic (Magnum Chic Dream x Bob Acre Badgerlena) for Euro-Vets, Inc.
