11.25.07 - NRHA Open Futurity First Go Ends as Cinch NRHA Non Pro Futurity Begins

Oklahoma City, OK – November 25, 2007 – The competition at the 2007 NRHA Futurity & Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship (NAAC) Show intensified as the first go-round in the Open Futurity came to a close Sunday afternoon. Now, 80% of the highest scoring riders in the first go will advance to the second go-round which begins Monday morning. All riders have set their sights on the same thing; the Open Futurity Finals for a chance to win the check for $125,000 awarded to the Open Futurity Champion.

The leader of the first go-round in the Open division remains Shawn Flarida, of Springfield, OH. Flarida scored a 227.5 in the third section of the go on Wimpys Little Chic, owned by Arcese Quarter Horses USA, of Weatherford, TX.

Chris Dawson leads the Intermediate Open division with a score of 225.5. Dawson of Gainesville, TX, showed Smart Shiner Lena in the second section of the first go-round. Smart Shiner Lena is owned by Carol Rose, also of Gainesville, TX.

Robin Schoeller, of Springfield, OH, has led the Limited Open division since the first section on Thursday, November 22. Schoeller scored a 219 on Wimpys Pinesail, owned by Charles Vaughan of Lafayette, IN.

Sunday afternoon brought the first Non Pro competition at the NRHA Futurity. The first section of the go-round of the Cinch NRHA Non Pro Futurity got underway. Following section one, the leader of the pack in the Non Pro and Intermediate Non Pro divisions is Josh Hattig, of Frederick, CO. The multiple Non Pro Derby and Non Pro Futurity Champion scored a 219 on Dudes Whippersnapper owned by Brad Hattig, of Berthoud, CO.

Pamela Dickinson, of Greenwood, FL, is the first go-round leader in the Limited Open division. Dickinson scored a 210 riding her Shiney Crystal. Dickinson was named Reserve Champion of the 2006 Adequan® NAAC Intermediate Non Pro Division.

The Youth Non Pro Futurity leader is Clayton Eggers, of Mingus, TX. Eggers, the 2006 Cinch NRHA Limited Open Non Pro Futurity Champion and Youth Non Pro Futurity Champion, scored a 204.5 riding BT Chicolena Whiz owned by Mike Eggers, also of Mingus, TX.

Monday’s competition highlights include the beginning of the Open Futurity second go-round and then the go-round for the Cinch NRHA Non Pro Futurity continues with section two.

There are several must see events at the NRHA Futurity; Thursday evening, November 29, brings spectacular international competition in the FEI World Reining Masters 2007. Don’t miss the Cinch NRHA Non Pro Futurity Finals beginning Friday afternoon, November 30. Later Friday evening, a special Invitational Freestyle event featuring the best freestyle riders in America takes place.

Saturday, December 1, will be a day chock full of exciting events including the Performance Horse Rookie of the Year, a special clinic with Stacy Westfall presented by Horse & Rider magazine, the Champagne Brunch with Legends, the NRHA/Markel Insurance Futurity Prospect sale, and the Elite Trailer Sweepstakes. All leading up to the main event! The Open Futurity Finals Champion will be awarded a check for $125,000 at the end of the night.
