Oklahoma City, OK – November 24, 2007 – NRHA Two Million Dollar Rider Shawn Flarida has raised the bar in the Open Futurity Division at the 2007 NRHA Futurity & Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship (NAAC) Show. Flarida took a commanding lead Saturday afternoon in the 3rd Section of the First Go-Round in the NRHA Open Futurity. Flarida, of Springfield, OH, scored a 227.5 on Wimpys Little Chic, owned by Arcese Quarter Horses USA, of Weatherford, TX.
Chris Dawson, of Gainesville, TX, remains the leader in the first-go of the Intermediate Open Division. Dawson scored a 225.5 in Friday’s competition on Smart Shiner Lena, owned by Carol Rose, of Gainesville, TX.
Pierre-Luc Phaneuf, of Overbrook, OK, has taken over the lead in the first-go of the Limited Open Futurity Division with a score of 220. Phaneuf rode Mr San Dun It, owned by Miguel Gonzalez, of Sun City, CA.
Competition continued Saturday in the 2007 Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship Show. Patti Brownshadel also continued her winning ways in the NAAC Intermediate Open and Intermediate Open Ancillary classes. Brownshadel, of Hempstead, TX, scored a 215.5 on her Im The Chic Magnet.
Combined with her win Friday night in the Adequan North American Affiliate Novice Horse Open class, Brownshadel has now qualified to draw TWICE in the Elite Trailer Affiliate Sweepstakes at the end of the NRHA Futurity. NRHA Corporate Partner Elite Trailers will give away one year’s use of SIX brand new 4-horse Mustang trailers to SIX lucky winners!
Before the Open Futurity finals on Saturday, December 1, the Adequan North American Affiliate Champions will receive the chance to draw for one of the six Elite trailers. The first six division champions to draw a winning envelope will drive away with one year’s use of a new trailer from Elite! On Sunday, the First-Go of the Open Futurity wraps up with the fourth section and the Cinch Non Pro Futurity gets underway Sunday afternoon with the Go-Round’s first section.
Looking ahead to a few must-see events at the NRHA Futurity; Thursday evening, November 29, brings spectacular international competition in the FEI World Reining Masters 2007. Don’t miss the Cinch Non Pro Futurity Finals beginning Friday afternoon, November 30. Later Friday evening, a special Invitational Freestyle event featuring the best freestyle riders in America takes place.
Saturday, December 1, will be a day chock full of exciting events including the Performance Horse Rookie of the Year, a special clinic with Stacy Westfall presented by Horse & Rider magazine, the Champagne Brunch with Legends, the NRHA/Markel Insurance Futurity Prospect sale, and the Elite Trailer Sweepstakes. All leading up to the main event! The Open Futurity Finals Champion will be awarded a check for $125,000 at the end of the night.
