11.23.07 - John Horn and Todd Martin Sweep First North American Affiliate Championship Classes

Oklahoma City, OK – November 23, 2007 – Following a round of late night competition Thursday evening at the 2007 NRHA Futurity & Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship (NAAC) Show, two NRHA Professionals took home top honors in the first NAAC classes held during the event.

John Horn, of Tuttle, OK, scored a 214.5 on Slick San Lena to win the NAAC Rookie Professional Class. Slick San Lena is owned by Kevina Green, of Anadarko, OK.

Horn tied for first place with Romain Ampe, of Aubrey, TX, in the Rookie Professional Ancillary class. Ampe scored a 214.5 on My Way Marla, owned by Melissa Vandorp of Aubrey, TX.

A score of 216 earned Todd Martin, of Boerne, TX, first place in both the NAAC Limited Open and Ancillary Limited Open classes. Martin showed Quixote Light, owned by 4R Performance Horses also of Boerne, TX.

Because Horn won the North American Affiliate Rookie Professional division championship and Martin earned the North American Affiliate Limited Open division championship, both riders qualified to participate in the Elite Trailer Affiliate Sweepstakes at the end of the NRHA Futurity Show. NRHA Corporate Partner Elite Trailers will give away one year’s use of SIX brand new 4-horse Mustang trailers to SIX lucky winners!

Before the Open Futurity finals on Saturday, December 1, the North American Affiliate Champions will receive the chance to draw for one of the six Elite trailers. The first six division champions to draw the winning envelope will drive away with one year’s use of a new trailer from Elite! The NRHA would like to thank Elite Trailers for their generous contribution to the NRHA Affiliate Program and affiliate members through the Elite Trailer Sweepstakes.

There’s something new at this year’s 2007 Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship Show. It’s called the North American Regional Team Championship. The top three riders in each NAAC division will earn points according to the number of horses shown. At the end of the NAAC, one of the nine affiliate regions in the US and Canada will be awarded with a check for $500. Following Thursday evening’s competition, the South Central region is in the lead with 76 points.

Friday’s competition brings the First Go, 2nd Section of the Open Futurity followed by the $1,000 added Novice Horse Open and $1,000 added NAAC Novice Horse Open. Then, freestyle riders will entertain the Futurity crowd Friday evening with the $7,500 added Open and $2,500 added Non Pro North American Freestyle Championship presented by Century Investment Group.

As well as the world’s best reining, other Futurity highlights include the 4R Performance Horses “8” Second Celebrity Slide – a special Reining event involving several top names in bull riding to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Oklahoma®, the $100,000 added FEI World Reining Masters 2007, an Invitational Freestyle competition, the Performance Horse Rookie of the Year, the $10,000 added Open class presented by Rhodes River Ranch, a special clinic with Stacy Westfall presented by Horse & Rider magazine, the Champagne Brunch with Legends, and three exceptional horse sales featuring futurity prospects, yearlings and other prospects and producers including the NRHA/Markel Insurance Breeders Select Showcase, NRHA/Markel Insurance Marketplace, NRHA/Markel Insurance Futurity Prospect sales and the Elite Trailer Sweepstakes.
