10.26.07 - Topsail Whiz Slides Into Five Million Dollar Sire Status

Oklahoma City, OK – October 25, 2007 – Legendary reining sire and NRHA Hall of Fame inductee Topsail Whiz has become only the second stallion to earn this incredible distinction, which is based on offspring earnings.  The major milestone came just over one year after reaching the four million dollar mark.

Topsail Whiz, owned by Bob Loomis Quarter Horses, Inc., of Marietta, OK, is by Topsail Cody, another NRHA Hall of Famer and Million Dollar Sire, and out of Jeanie Whiz Bar.  When contacted about Topsail Whiz’s latest achievement, you could hear Loomis grin from ear to ear through the phone.  “We’re thrilled that he reached five million dollar status.  We’re awfully proud of him.  He’s been a tremendous horse.”  Loomis continued, “His record pretty well speaks for him as far as what he’s sired. We’re tickled to death to be lucky enough to have a horse like him.”

It’s been six years of milestones for Topsail Whiz.  In 2001, the chestnut Quarter Horse became an NRHA Million Dollar Sire.  He was inducted into the NRHA Hall of Fame in 2002 and in 2003 he earned Two Million Dollar Sire status.  In 2004, Topsail Whiz became a Three Million Dollar Sire and the Four Million Dollar Sire milestone came during the 2006 NRHA Derby.

The stallion is also known for his success in the NRHA show pen.  At the1990 NRHA Futurity, Loomis placed third riding Topsail Whiz.  Then in 1991, the pair won the Lazy E Classic and placed fourth in the NRHA Derby.  Topsail Whiz has NRHA lifetime earnings of almost $50,000.

Loomis is an avid supporter of the NRHA Sire & Dam Program.  Topsail Whiz is participating in the Top 20 Stallion Program, which means a 2008 breeding will be available for purchase during the NRHA Sire & Dam Program online auction.  The auction begins November 15 and runs through December 1.

Loomis feels it takes many special qualities to make a great stallion.  “In the reining horse industry, you’ve got to have the dynamic talent, but the dynamic talent doesn’t do you much good unless it’s a horse with an incredible mind and incredible trainability.  That kind of sums Whiz up,” said Loomis.  “He’s got an unbelievable amount of talent and is probably the easiest horse to train that I ever rode.  He’s done a great job of passing all of his best attributes on to his foals.  Very few horses can produce their great qualities like he can.”

Topsail Whiz joins Hollywood Dun It as a Five Million Dollar Sire.  Hollywood Dun It reached the five million dollar milestone in April of 2007.
