Oklahoma City, OK – September 21, 2006 – The sport of Reining is coming to NBC! This Sunday, September 24th, from 4:30-6:00 pm EDT, NBC will air international competition of Reining events held recently at the 2006 FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG) in Aachen, Germany. NBC will air its WEG coverage during a 90-minute special featuring coverage from all the events including the excitement of Reining that wowed the international crowd.
60,000 enthusiastic spectators from around the world gathered on September 1st to cheer on their country during the international Reining team competition. With a one point difference, team USA edged out team Canada to take home the gold with a composite score of 665. Canada rode away with the silver medal with a score of 664 and team Italy was awarded the bronze medal with a score of 656.
The number of countries represented in the Reining competition at the 2006 WEG in Aachen, Germany, doubled from Reining’s inaugural debut at the 2002 WEG held in Jerez, Spain. Reiners from 22 different countries around the world, including the Eastern European countries of Slovakia and the Czech Republic competed in this year’s games.
This Sunday’s NBC broadcast will highlight the WEG and also preview the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games to be held in Lexington, Kentucky. For the first time in history the WEG will be held outside Europe. The 2010 event is expected to draw more than 500,000 spectators and bring $150 million to the Kentucky economy.
