11.18.05 - NRHA Approved Italian Reining Horse Association Futurity

Andrea Proto and Whole Made Ruby Limited Open Champions

On Thursday night the finals of the Limited Open and Limited Non Pro IRHA Futurity took place in Manerbio, Italy, at the Palasturla Facility. With a score of 213, Andrea Proto riding Whole Made Ruby, a Quarter Horse gelding by Wole Gemini (by Gemini Pine) and out of Ruby Made, claimed the title and the very first NRHA Lawson Bronze awarded in an IRHA Futurity. For the 31-year-old trainer from Besate, Italy, who has only been riding reiners for the past four years, this is the first title earned in a major event. “Winning here tonight is truly special because this is a horse that I bought as a two-year-old for trail rides,” said an enthusiastic Andrea following his win. “When I took him home and started riding him, it didn’t take long to realize that he was really talented and that we could take a shot at showing him here and I would really like to thank Pierluigi Fabbri and Marco Ricotta for all their help”.

The Reserve Championship, with a score of 212.5 went to Alessandro Milani seen riding RS Kim Olena (Spat Olena x Kims Parfait) for Valentino Piran.

Giacomo Ronchi and Frozen Cross win the Limited Non Pro Futurity Championship

After only having shown in two regional shows, the Futurity for Giacomo Ronchi was a first in every way. For the 24-year-old student from Forlì, Italy, this was the first Futurity on the very first horse he has ever owned! Ronchi and Frozen Cross (Frozen Sailor x Tremendous Cross) took the lead in the Limited Non Pro IRHA Futurity finals with a score of 215 thanks to their fluid run and their trademark manouever: long, deep stops. “When I bought Frozen Cross as a two-year-old, nobody really believed in him except for me!” says Giacomo. “He has a great attitude in everything he does but I couldn’t have done this without my friends, the Cortesi family.”

Roberta Gianformaggio riding Smart Jakalope, a Quarter Horse mare by Smart And Happy and out of Maria Seis, took the reserve championship honors with a score of 210.

Tonight the finals of the Non Pro and Intermediate Non Pro Futurity will take place at 6.30 pm following the NRHA-approved Intermediate Open, Limited Open, Youth and Open classes. The latter will be run with the CRI.
