BiTerra Quarter Horses recently joined forces with some of the National Reining Horse Association’s Corporate Partners to host a workshop that offered education and entertainment for horse owners of all ages.
The Horse Owner Workshop (HOW) held its second annual clinic in Weimar, Texas, at the BiTerra Quarter Horse Ranch. Titled the “Full Circle of Horse Ownership,” the HOW workshop provided the potential reiners an opportunity for one-on-one interaction with various experts on a variety of horse topics.
“It is incredible to see the positive results that can happen when NRHA members, like Terry and Bill, provide an opportunity for equine industry leaders, like our Corporate Partners, to educate reiners and equine enthusiasts alike,” said Lisa Garza, NRHA Director of Marketing and Communications. “This is a perfect example of the incredible group of corporate partners NRHA is fortunate to have.”
“We wanted to provide the community with an opportunity to hear experts on a range of subjects,” said Terry Owens, NRHA member and BiTerra owner. “We did a lot of listening since our initial workshop and assembled speakers who could address the range of subjects that are important to horse owners.”
The workshop featured trainer, Doug Milholland, 1990 NRHA Open Futurity Champion, who performed a reining demonstration and presentation. Milholland demonstrated reining maneuvers and explained how to train a reining horse.
“The typical HOW focuses primarily on nutrition,” said Owens. “We wanted to offer horse owners the chance to expand their base of knowledge and create an interest in the sport of Reining.”
Dr. Stacy Appleton of Land O’ Lakes Purina Mills LLC was at the workshop to give advice on equine nutrition, along with Dr. Robert Dana from The Rider’s Edge, who informed participants on equine physiology and chiropractic care. Land O’ Lakes Purina Mills LLC and The Rider’s Edge are both NRHA Corporate Partners. There were individual workshops, with experts in each area, giving tips on veterinary care, pre-purchase examinations and lameness, hoof care, grooming and beginning riding.
Additional NRHA corporate partners involved in HOW, were EQ Solutions and Classic Equine. More than 115 attended HOW, which ranged from beginning riders to experienced competitors.
“We are already in the planning stage for our next workshop with many new ideas,” said Owens. “It’s fun to see this much excitement about Reining and the equine market.”
