Steve Simon’s Custom Crome has reached an NRHA milestone. His sons and daughters have excelled in the NRHA show pen and moved their sire to the prestigious NRHA Million Dollar Sire list. That list includes NRHA Hall of Fame members Hollywood Dun It, Topsail Whiz, Smart Chic Olena, Topsail Cody, Hollywood Jac 86, and Be Aech Enterprise as well as Reminic, Gallo Del Cielo, and Shining Spark.
Custom Crome was bred to be a winner in the show pen and a star in the breeding barn. He’s by Chrome Plated Jac by Hollywood Jac 86 and out of Another Greyhound by Greyhound Step. As a three-year-old, Mike Flarida guided Custom Crome to the 1993 NRHA Futurity Open Division championship! With only five shows to his credit, Custom Crome’s NRHA Lifetime Earnings are $106,489.47.
At the National Reining Breeders Classic (NRBC), owner Steve Simon was all smiles during the Open Derby awards’ presentation. It was not because one of his horses had won the prestigious NRBC event. It was because the combined placings of three Custom Crome get had put their sire over the top. Andrea Fappani earned second place on Simon’s Custom Legend, Brent Wright placed Custom Mahogany, owned by Arcese Quarter Horses USA, tied for seventh, and Shelli Ries rode Simon’s Custom Strategy to 19th place. Then again, Steve Simon is used to watching the sons and daughters of Custom Crome excel. There are 65 Custom Crome NRHA money earners to date. Three have earned over $100,000!
First on Custom Crome’s list of money earners is Custom Pistol, the 2001 NRHA Open Futurity Champion Reserve Champion ridden by Brent Wright. Custom Pistol and Wright were the 2002 NRBC Open Division Reserve Champions and went on to win the 2002 NRHA Open Derby. Custom Pistol’s Lifetime Earnings are $233,230.16. Custom Red Berry, ridden by Brent Wright was third in the 1999 NRHA Futurity, won the 2001 NRHA Derby Open and placed consistently in USEF competition. Custom Red Berry has NRHA Lifetime Earnings of $163,753.75. Custom Mahogany and Wright were the 2002 NRHA Futurity Open Division Reserve Champions and part of the NRBC trio that put Custom Crome on the Million Dollar Sire list. Her NRHA Lifetime Earnings are $159,308.12.
