The Reining Horse Sports Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, is a supporting organization for the National Reining Horse Association, dedicated to developing and enhancing the sport of Reining worldwide. Since its inception in 2001, the RHSF has distributed over $300,000 in support of Reining.
Founded in 1966, the NRHA is an organization dedicated to the promotion of the Reining horse. It serves as the standard setting body for the sport of Reining worldwide. The NRHA headquarters are located in Oklahoma City.
Reining is a judged event designed to show the athletic ability of a ranch type horse within the confines of a show arena. In NRHA competition, contestants are required to run one of ten approved patterns.
A variety of Oklahoma City’s finest restaurants have partnered with the Reining Horse Sports Foundation to promote their own cuisine, while supporting the foundation’s development efforts for their five core programs: the Hall of Fame; Youth; Research, Development & Education; International Development; and the Crisis Fund. The tasting is a kick off for the sale of the RHSF’s Taste of Reining Cookbook.
The front cover of the cookbook will be unveiled at the tasting, which takes place in the Cantina at the Oklahoma Fair Park Coliseum in Oklahoma City at 5 pm on Saturday, May 21st. The cost is $10 per person. Pre-sales for the Cookbook will also be accepted at the tasting. Distribution of the Cookbook is projected for the 2005 NRHA Futurity & North American Affiliate Championship Show. The cookbooks will be sold for $20 at the Futurity and $15 in advance. All proceeds from the tasting, as well as the sales of the Cookbook, go to benefit the RHSF.
The Cookbook will entice you with recipes such as Citrus Baked Orange Roughy. If your mouth waters at the aroma of elephant garlic sautéed in extra virgin Italian olive oil, you too will find plenty of dishes to your liking. This original cookbook also features spicy cuisine like Herbed Chicken Breast Smothered with Tomatillo Salsa, sure to fire up even the dullest of pallets. Just at Reining knows no borders, look for your favorite recipes from around the world as the Taste of Reining Cookbook features recipes reminiscent of the diversity of the NRHA membership. Also included, our current Reining masters, as well as our past legends, will delight you with their favorite recipes and anecdotal memories about the sport of Reining.
The Taste of Reining Cookbook is still in the developmental stages and anyone may submit a recipe, story or their original cowboy poetry.
