In this, the year of the NRHA Futurity’s 40th anniversary, it seems fitting that the association’s current leadership would display the vision and forward thinking that those who formed the NRHA are well known for. Adjectives and phrases such as unselfishness, progressive, one big family, and best for the sport and association come to mind. These are the values and essence of what the sport of Reining and NRHA are all about.

In that spirit, NRHA is pleased to announce that we are doubling the added money in the Intermediate Open and the Limited Open divisions of the 2005 NRHA Futurity. Not only will NRHA soon be announcing a new Intermediate Open title sponsor, but we are adding $25,000, which will increase the added money to a total of $50,000. In the Limited Open, NRHA will add an additional $5,000, making the total added money $10,000.

In the Open division, an additional $20,000 will boost the added money to $100,000. The Open division’s purse structure will also change. “We want to share the wealth with all of the finalists,” said President Elect Dell Hendricks. The top 30 riders, including ties, advance to the clean slate NRHA Futurity finals. “It has been our goal that the entry that places last in the Futurity finals would earn $10,000,” says Hendricks. “These changes and improvements to the program will put us very close to that objective.”

Hendricks continues, “These changes are investments in the future and a giant step in the education and development of new trainers, many of whom compete in the Intermediate and Limited Open divisions. With more money to run for, it will make it easier for our owner/rider teams to justify the expense of keeping a Futurity entry in training.”

Seldom does a group come together with such enthusiasm and cohesiveness. These changes were supported by virtually everyone: the NRHA Officers, Board of Directors, staff, professionals, non pros, owners and members. “On behalf of the Professionals Committee, I would like to say that we think it is one of the best things to come out of the Aged Events Committee,” says Professionals Committee Chairman, Dwayn Hoelscher. “These changes have the full support of the Professionals Committee. This is a prime example of how well our committees work together.”
