« 11.27.04 - FIRST GO-ROUND, SECOND SECTION RAISES THE BAR 11.29.04 - Horses And Riders Officially Welcomed In Oklahoma City For The FEI World Reining Masters Finals Presented By NetJets »

11.28.04 - Open Futurity Riders Turn Up the Heat

Tom McCutcheon walked into the show pen on what appeared to be a very relaxed and confident three-year-old, Bob Stinner’s Major Jesse.  As the handsome son of Major Vaquero out of Jesses Affair began his pattern #8 with four spins to the left, you realized why this horse was so cool, calm and collected. He knew exactly what McCutcheon wanted - and he delivered throughout the pattern.  The judges rewarded this talented pair with the high score of the day and first go round: 223.5 Todd Bergen was just a half point behind McCutcheon on Vaughn Zimmerman’s Skeets Little Peppy - a definite contender.  Skeets Little Peppy is by Skeets Peppy and out of Mia Colonel Quixote.

Friday’s top score of 221, earned by Bub Poplin aboard Starlights Starbrite (Grays Starlight x Melody Lena) owned by Gately Living Trust, was matched by Troy Heikes riding Darlyne Woodward’s Vintage Boots (Master Boot Jac x Vintage Badger) and Andrea Fappani riding Carter Smith’s Ghiradelli Chic (Chocolate Chic Olena x Full Sail Sue).  Poplin is still the leader in the Intermediate Open standings with Shadd Parkinson holding on to second place with Debra & Dorn Parkinson’s Spursuasion (Ray Gay Quixote x Mist N Smoke).

Corey Hutchings and Chris Dawson are still leading the Futurity’s Limited Open Division with scores of 218.5 each.  Corey is riding RU Missin Diamonds (Like A Diamond x Missy Olena) owned by George and Cindy McKinzie.  Chris is riding Shiners Q Nic (Shining Spark/Bueno Q Nic) for Montgomery Lee Petty.

With over 500 entries, the first go round of the NRHA Futurity takes four days.  The second go round, first section starts on Monday.  The clean slate Finals is scheduled for Saturday, December 4th.  The winner of the NRHA Futurity Open Division is guaranteed $175,000!

Non Pro Futurity

NRHA Cinch Non Pro Futurity

Dr. Jim Morgan maintained his lead in the Cinch NRHA Non Pro Futurity with Hesa Friendly by Hesa Smart Chic and out of Seduction. Sally Broten scored a 216 on Dun It By Starlight (Starlights Wrangler x Okie Dokie Dunnit) and is still sitting second.

Justin Zimmerman maintained his lead in the Intermediate Non Pro Division standings with a 214.5 earned on Smart Whiz Lady (Topsail Whiz x Lena Lady Jac), but Dylan Pond, Whiz N Chex N Jac (Whiz N Chex x Jac Olena) is hot on his heels with a 214.

Scott Fisher is still leading the Limited Non Pro Division with his Buenos Wild Child (Bueno Chex Willie x Dixies Wild Child) of the Cinch NRHA Non Pro Futurity.  And Michael Jeffcoat is still sitting second on Honey Jacspin (Jacspin x Poco Boss Honey) owned by Michael and his wife Jena.  Honey Jacspin is a Sire & Dam Program Offspring.

The NRHA Futurity & North American Affiliate Championship Show runs from November 25th through December 4th at the Oklahoma State Fair Park in Oklahoma City.  The annual event offers ten full days of activities the entire family can enjoy including a huge trade show, three Sales, the 4H/FAA Clinic with Tim McQuay and Dell Hendricks on Friday afternoon and the Clinton Anderson Clinic with Mike McEntire scheduled for Saturday, December 4th at 10:00 am.  The Futurity will also host the inaugural FEI World Reining Masters Finals Presented by NetJets, on Thursday, December 2 at 7:30 p.m.  Contestants from 16 countries will be competing for over $100,000 in prize money.
