11.19.04 - NRHA Three Million Dollar Sire: Topsail Whiz

He became an NRHA Million Dollar Sire in 2001.  He was inducted into the NRHA Hall of Fame in 2003.   By the completion of the 2003 NRHA Derby in Oklahoma City, Topsail Whiz had earned Two Million Dollar Sire status.  But he didn’t stop there. When the earnings from major 2004 NRHA fall shows and futurities were added to his get record, the sons and daughters of Topsail Whiz earned their sire yet another NRHA milestone.  Owned by Bob Loomis Quarter Horses, Inc., Marietta, Oklahoma, Topsail Whiz is NRHA’s second Three Million Dollar Sire.

It’s In The Genes

Topsail Whiz is a third generation NRHA Hall of Famer.  He’s by NRHA Million Dollar Sire and NRHA Hall of Famer Topsail Cody who, with Loomis riding, won the 1980 NRHA Futurity.  Topsail Cody is by NRHA Hall of Famer Joe Cody, a prolific foundation sire for horses destined to compete in the NRHA show pen.  “To me, Whiz is a product of one of the greatest genetic families in the reining horse industry,” says Loomis.

The Proof Is In The Show Pen

Loomis placed Topsail Whiz third in the 1990 NRHA Futurity.  In 1991, they won the Lazy E Classic, placed fourth in the NRHA Derby, won the NRHA Open at the 1991 NRHA Futurity & Championship Show and earned an AQHA Performance Register of Merit.  Topsail Whiz has NRHA Lifetime Earnings just shy of $50,000.

When he was retired from the show pen, his career as a breeding sire got into high gear. Topsail Whiz has sired an NRHA Open Division Futurity Champion as well as Futurity Intermediate and Non Pro Champions.  He’s sired two NRHA Derby Champions, two USET Champions, an NRBC Derby Champion, several Aged Event Reserve Champions, numerous NRHA Futurity finalists in every division, NRHA World Champions, and top ten placers.  He’s sired several AQHA World Champions and at the 2002 AQHA World Show, the get of Topsail Whiz won World Championship titles in the Amateur, Junior, and Senior Reining - a clean sweep.

“I’ve been doing this a long time and Topsail Whiz is just different than any other horse,” says Loomis - and that says a lot from a reiner who has won six NRHA Futurities.  Congratulations, Bob Loomis Quarter Horses and Topsail Whiz, NRHA’s newest Three Million Dollar Sire.
