05.18.04 - NRHA Non Pro Derby: Monday’s Highlights!

The NRHA Non Pro Derby featuring Non Pro, Intermediate Non Pro, Limited Non Pro, and Prime Time Non Pro divisions, began on Monday morning, May 17, at the Oklahoma State Fair Park with the first section of the first go round.   When the 59th rider completed NRHA Pattern #8, seasoned competitor Sally Broten, River Falls, Wisconsin, was leading the pack with a score of 219 earned on Mega Ditto.  Sally and her gelding, a six-year-old by Marthas Mega Jac and out of Okie Dokie Dunnit, were third in the 2001 Cinch NRHA Non Pro Futurity, and an NRHA Derby and NRBC finalist in 2002 and 2003.  Mega Ditto has NRHA Lifetime Earnings of $80,033.37.

 

Steve Harris, DVM, was second in the first section, scoring a 218.5 on Good Time Show Girl by Hollywood Dun It out of Goodtime Girl.  Marc Wagman, riding Best Stop by Custom Crome and out of Rest Stop, scored a 217.5 for third place. There was a three-way tie for fourth place between Lisa Cover riding Just Gotta Shine (Shining Spark), Quincy Cahill riding Boomon N Seven (Boomernic), and George King aboard SR Roosters Kid (Gallo Del Cielo).  Each rider scored a 216.5.

 

The Non Pro Derby first go - second section takes place Tuesday, commencing at 8:00 a.m.  The Non Pro Derby Finals are slated to begin on Friday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. and will continue until early evening. 

 

Pete Kyle Wins Novice Horse Open

 

Pete Kyle scored a 219 to best a field of 26 Novice Horse Open entries riding John and Gayle Chevrette’s Tejons Impy.  Bill Horn riding Shanda Guard’s Hickory Whiskey was first into the show pen, scored a 218, and earned second place followed by Ooh Cisco ridden by Chris Dawson for Carol Rose.

The NRHA Derby will continue at the Oklahoma State Fair Park through Sunday, May 23rd.  The Derby Open Division first go round will start on Wednesday, May 19, at 8:00 a.m. The Derby Spotlight Sale is scheduled for Saturday morning, May 22 at 10:00 a.m., with the Derby Open Division finals slated to begin Saturday afternoon.  The week will end on Sunday with International Day featuring the USEF Young Rider Reining Medal class and the $75,000 added Bayer/USEF Open Reining Championship Final.
